Company donates $1M to rebuild Annapolis after city was hit by tornado

A significant portion of the donation will go to help support the South Iron School, which was hit by the tornado.

ANNAPOLIS, Mo. — Standard Industries will donate $1 million to help rebuild Annapolis, Missouri after the city was hit by an EF-1 tornado last week

SGI, a Standard Industries company, is the largest employer in Annapolis with 183 employees and has operated there for nearly 60 years.

A significant portion of the donation will go to help support the South Iron School, which was hit by the tornado. The rest will go to rebuilding efforts in consolation with local officials, a press release said.

A tornado with gusts up to 110 mph touched down right by the school, according to the National Weather Service. The school, which houses students from kindergarten through 12th grade, suffered severe damage as a result of the storm.

It is unclear if the school repairs will be completed by the fall semester.

The city's mayor and emergency management director Scott Oatman told 5 On Your Side last week that the destruction throughout their community was widespread. The city had six miles worth of damage, including 10 homes and three cars, and their main road was shut down due to numerous power lines on the road, Oatman said.

SGI employees provided equipment and supported first responders after the tornado, the release said. They helped clear debris and down trees from roads for emergency services and the power company.
