ST. LOUIS COUNTY — St. Louis County government is in danger of a shutdown.
That's what Councilman Dr. Sam Page said Sunday night, and said that possible shutdown is the reason the council is taking County Executive Steve Stenger to court.
"We'll be back in court this week asking for a temporary restraining order to ask that the money moved back and to allow the legislative branch of government to continue to operate," Page said.
The budget cuts in question were done back in January. The County Council cut the budget of every department in the county by 13 percent. So Stenger issued an executive order to cut the council's budget by that same amount, even though they asked for an increase.
Stenger said even if the council shuts down in September or October, there will be no shutdown of government services to the taxpayers. Potholes will still be filled.
