Couple loses venue to flood waters weeks before wedding

The couple was getting ready to make their vows before God when mother nature decided she couldn't hold her peace.

ST. PETERS, Mo. — Planning a wedding is already a tough job. Between finding a dress, making invitations and, of course, finding a venue, it can be a lot to handle.

But add in complications from Mother Nature, and the job can become that much more difficult.

That's what one couple is dealing with after their wedding venue is now completely underwater and they're stuck searching for another place to say "I do".

“We've been through the worst. I'm sure everything's gonna be fine," said Annalyse Crowdus. "This is just a little bump in the road.”

Annalyse Crowdus and Jason Erbst's love story started at Webster University and if you ask them it was kismet.

"I've told her before as soon as I met her, and saw her I was like I don't know if you're just gonna be a good friend, or what's planned, but I just have this feeling that you're going to be really important in my life," Erbst said.

From just a friend to his fiancé. The couple was getting ready to make their vows before God when mother nature decided she couldn't hold her peace.

"We got a venue in May of last year and everything's pretty much finalized except now we don't have a venue anymore," Crowdus said.

They were all set to get married at Lakeside Park in St. Peters on June 8.

"All the major venues are booked," she said. "We can't really be picky, that's for sure, and its also our day so we want it to be special."

With family and friends coming from out of town, it's not so easy to just change their date.

Annalyse says the venue owners told her, even after this water recedes the clean up will make it nearly impossible for them to say I do at their intended venue.

"It's not their fault, none of us saw it coming, it's just horrible timing," she said with a laugh.

And despite the water washing away their plans, it didn't dampen their spirits.

"I feel strangely at peace about it," she said. "I think our faith is a big part of that. We've known God's hand has been in this relationship since the beginning and we know that this is right so we're not gonna let that be affected by the news of the venue."

The couple said the venue has been more than understanding and they do think they'll get a refund.

As they mentioned, this close to the big day many of the other venues are booked.

They're looking for a place to have the wedding and reception and seat about 150 people. If you know of a place, please email jpayoute@ksdk.com.
