ST CHARLES, Mo. — One of the bulls who had run off after a truck crash on Interstate 70 and First Capitol Drive was caught Wednesday, according to the City of St. Charles Animal Shelter. The crash resulted in four other cows killed and another cow still on the loose.
According to a Facebook post from the shelter on Wednesday, the St. Charles Police Department, local ranchers and volunteers from Five Acres Animal Shelter helped catch the runaway bull after five days in town.
A spokesperson with the department said early Friday morning that there was an accident involving a truck carrying several cows westbound at the intersection of I-70 and MO-94/First Capitol Drive. They confirmed that multiple cows died and two were on the loose as a result of the crash.
Cpl. Dallas Thompson with the Missouri Department of Transportation said it received information at about 10:15 Thursday night regarding a livestock tractor-trailer that had hit an overpass pillar. Four cows that were inside the trailer were killed.
Thompson said the cattle hauler was removed from the roadway and taken to a tow lot. The cows that survived the incident were transferred to another hauler.
There were no injuries.
L. Bax shared a video of the scene with 5 On Your Side. The video showed a cow running along the highway on-ramp. The truck container had damage along the top and back of the trailer.
