Washington County crash kills 10-year-old, injures 3 other children

The driver was coming around a curve, lost control of the car and struck a tree.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Mo. — A 10-year-old girl died and three other children were injured Monday morning in a crash on Missouri Highway 21 in Washington County, Missouri. 

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened on southbound Highway 21, north of Furnace Creek Road. The driver was coming around a curve, lost control of the car and struck a tree. 

A 10-year-old girl died in the crash, and the three other children, ages 6, 7 and 8, in the car were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, according to an MSHP crash report. 

The driver, a 36-year-old man, was also taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, the report said.

The Washington County coroner arrived at the scene at about 9:15 a.m.

As of Monday afternoon, the victim was not yet identified.
