Neighbor comes to the rescue during attempted home invasion in Crystal City

The family's neighbor was able to hold off the intruder long enough for police to arrive.

CRYSTAL CITY, Mo. — Crystal City resident Andrew Miller said his family were the victims of a recent attempted home invasion, and their neighbor helped thwart the intruder.

Miller wasn't home on Feb. 6 when a man tried breaking into his home while his wife and daughter were there alone.

A man reportedly hopped their fence, got onto their deck and attempted to get in through the back door. When he found it was locked, he tried to force his way in.

Miller's wife and daughter fled the home and called 911. Neighbor D.J. LaBrot heard the commotion and told them to take shelter in his home while he confronted the intruder.

LaBrot said he had a gun but didn’t believe the man had any weapons. He decided to use a bat to hit the intruder as he tried to climb the fence into LaBrot’s backyard. He delayed him long enough for police to arrive.
