ALTON, Ill. — The body of an unidentified man was found Wednesday in Alton, Illinois. The circumstances that led to his death remain unclear as of Wednesday night.
According to Alton Police Chief Jarrett M. Ford, just after noon Wednesday, his department received a report of a person lying in a wooded area in the 2300 block of Lincoln Avenue.
When responding officers arrived at the scene, they found the man dead. His death is currently under investigation, police said.
Investigators with the Alton Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division were investigating with the help of Illinois State Police and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford said Wednesday afternoon that it was too early in the investigation to know if the man's death was "suspicious," but authorities expected to have more information soon.
