DORSEY, Ill. — An Alton, Illinois, man was killed in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Madison County.

According to a news release from the Madison County Coroner's Office, 67-year-old James Roberts was driving a semitruck hauling rock southbound on Illinois Route 159 near North Deer Park Drive in Dorsey when he collided with a northbound dump truck at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The dump truck had crossed the center line to avoid striking a fuel tanker stopped in the northbound lanes attempting to turn left into a driveway, according to the release.

Roberts was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. An autopsy determined his preliminary cause of death to be blunt head, neck and chest trauma, according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the dump truck was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

As of Thursday, Illinois State Police and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit were still investigating the cause of the crash.
