WOOD RIVER, Ill. — An elderly woman died in a house fire in Wood River early Wednesday morning.
Wood River Fire Chief Wade Stahlhut said firefighters were called to a home on the 800 block of State Street at about 5:15 Wednesday morning. He said a person was killed in the fire, and the house was ruled a total loss.
On Thursday, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn identified the fire victim as 81-year-old Donna W. Nance.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate the fire.
