I-44 crash leaves motorcyclist dead Sunday in Franklin County

A Cuba, Missouri, man lost control of his motorcycle before traveling off the roadway and crashing into a rock bluff, according to MSHP.

ST CLAIR, Mo. — A motorcyclist from Cuba, Missouri, died Sunday afternoon in a crash along Interstate 44 in Franklin County.

According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Ruben Caldera was driving his motorcycle westbound on I-44 in St. Clair at about 3:50 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to travel off the right side of the roadway, strike a rock bluff and overturn before ejecting him.

Caldera was pronounced dead at the scene, according to MSHP.

All westbound I-44 lanes were closed for about 90 minutes near Mile Marker 239 as crews worked the scene.
