ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Del Pietro's restaurant, part of the Michael Del Pietro Restaurant Group, will close after dinner service New Year's Eve.

Owner Michael Del Pietro Jr.'s mother, Mary Rose Del Pietro, the operator of the Richmond Heights restaurant who's now 81, plans to retire, St. Louis Magazine reports. He called the closing "equally happy and sad," according to the publication.

The restaurant, at 1059 S. Big Bend Blvd., is known for its pasta and salads, signature dishes like eggplant Parmesan and house-made toasted ravioli.

"The restaurant is doing fine. We’re making money, and I had a great run,” Mary Rose Del Pietro told the magazine. ”It’s just time.” She's worked in restaurants for more than 70 years, starting at age 11 at Rossino's, a Central West End restaurant that was co-owned by her parents and closed in 2006.
