Downtown St. Louis high-rise apartment building roof catches fire

A later update from the fire department said crews were able to extinguish a fire on the roof. There was minor water damage to the floor directly below the roof.

ST. LOUIS — Firefighters extinguished a fire in the roof of a high-rise apartment building in downtown St. Louis early Saturday morning.

A fire on the roof of a building in the 900 block of Olive Street was visible, according to a 4:20 a.m. social media post from the St. Louis Fire Department. Firefighters were working to access the building around that time. 

A later update from the fire department said crews were able to extinguish a fire on the roof. There was minor water damage to the floor directly below the roof, the 16th floor.

Some residents evacuated the building and returned after firefighters declared the area safe.

No one was hurt.
