ST. LOUIS — A non-profit organization is giving away free backpacks Thursday afternoon to students in South City. Concordia Publishing House has 800 backpacks filled with school supplies to shell out.
Parents and teachers can pick them up between 3-6 p.m. in front of Concordia’s building on Jefferson Avenue. It’s on a first come, first serve basis so people are encouraged to get there early. You’ll be given a ticket to ensure your spot.
Lindsey Martie, the Senior Public Relations Specialist for Concordia Publishing House, said they’ve done this for more than 20 years. She said it’s important to support the community.
“A lot of the school supplies list are so long and for a lot of families, that’s hard especially when you have more than one kid even when you do have one kid,” said Martie.
The backpacks are filled with notebooks, folders, pens, pencil cases, glue sticks, basically everything your child needs to get ready for the fall. Backpacks are separated by age group from as young as kindergarten up to 8th grade.
