HAZELWOOD, Mo. — The Missouri state auditor criticized the Hazelwood School District's spending decisions in a scathing new report released as the school year approaches the end.
The report, released Wednesday by State Auditor Nicole Galloway, came as the district proposed significant budget cuts across the school system. Galloway looked over the books for more than a year, giving the district a "fair" rating.
Galloway noted there needs to be more spending accountability. In her findings, Galloway noted that a Hazelwood Central High School principal admitted to taking money from the district, to which he repaid more than $3,000. But, she said, over $5,000 of that money is still missing.
