EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — A man is facing gun and drug charges after he shot at a car in Edwardsville on Tuesday.
Daniel R. Matlock, 30, shot at a car and its occupants in the 900 block of Hale Avenue, a written statement from the Madison County State's Attorney's Office said.
Police would not say how many people were in the vehicle when Matlock opened fire.
According to police, the shooting happened near a home in the portion of Hale Avenue that borders Leclair Park.
Investigators said the shooting was no random act of violence. They said it stemmed from a disagreement with relatives. An Edwardsville Police Department spokesperson said there was no danger to the community.
Matlock was in custody Friday morning, pending a pretrial detention hearing. The State's Attorney's Office has filed a petition to keep Matlock detained at the Madison County Jail until his trial.
According to the statement, officers with the Edwardsville Police Department quickly responded to a call of shots fired.
The investigation led to the following charges against Matlock:
- Armed violence, a class x felony
- Aggravated discharge of a firearm, a class 1 felony
- Possession of cannabis, 30 to 500 grams, with intent to deliver, a class 3 felony,
- Reckless Discharge of a firearm, a class 4 felony
A class x felony carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Matlock has no prior criminal history in Madison County, a spokesperson with the State's Attorney's Office said.
