ST. LOUIS - Visitors to the Saint Louis Zoo will now be able to see the zoo's latest addition: a two-month-old endangered lemur.
The female Cocquerel's sifaka, native to Madagascar, was born at the Saint Louis Zoo Primate House on January 21. The baby is named Kapika, which means "peanut" in Malagasy.
This is the fourth baby for mother, 12-year-old Almirena, and father, 16-year-old Caligula.
Visitors can see baby Kapika, her parents and two siblings, at the Primate House.
In their natural habitat, Sifakas use their long, frog-like legs to cling to tree trunks and launch themselves from one tree to another.
The Cocquerel's sifaka is in danger of extinction in the wild because of continual habitat loss due to logging.
