ST. LOUIS — The family of a boy who died at a St. Louis County summer camp in 2022 gathered to honor him Saturday.
T.J. Mister's parents want to raise awareness for swim safety after he drowned. T.J. was 6 years old.
"We're celebrating his life today," said Olga Mister, T.J.'s mom. "He was taken from us."
His parents set up a swim scholarship in his honor and called on Missouri lawmakers to pass stronger regulations for camps.
Olga Mister said in May that there were not enough lifeguards to watch 50 children and that CPR was not performed correctly.
Drowning is the number one cause of death for children ages 1 to 4.
