ST. LOUIS — One person has died after a two-car crash Friday night in St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded at about 11 p.m. Friday to the fatal crash in an eastbound lane of I-64 near South 6th Street.

During a preliminary investigation, police learned that the driver of a Chrysler Pacifica was driving in the southbound exit lane of I-64 and attempted to change lanes. Police said the driver then hit the impact attenuator, then struck the right side of a Kenworth tractor-trailer, struck the median, then was struck by the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. He was later identified at 55-year-old Clark Williams of Inman, South Carolina.

No other injuries were reported.

After the crash, MoDOT closed all eastbound lanes, and nearly five hours later the eastbound lanes were open again.

This is an ongoing investigation.
