FERGUSON, Mo. (KSDK) -- "This is my city. This is specifically my city and I'm outraged."
UFC star Tyron Woodley is from Ferguson, where violent protesters have left the city in a state of unrest following the grand jury's decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for Michael Brown's death.
Woodley used to sweep up hair at a local barber shop. Walking on the street where he grew up, he called the recent violence terrible and embarrassing for his home town.
"I hate seeing it and, um, I hate watching it" Woodley told NewsChannel 5's Rene Knott. "More importantly I hate people that don't understand the environment, how small Ferguson is and how there's really a sense of community."
"We shouldn't have been looting and rioting and tearing up our own city," Woodley said. He's ashamed of the violent protesters who he says make it look bad for the peaceful protesters.
Citing Martin Luther King Jr., Woodley said "let's not make noise, let's make a difference."
While Woodley said he doesn't have a clear vision for Ferguson, he has a first step - self actualization.
"I think we need to look in the mirror."
