FESTUS, Mo. — The Festus Public Library, 400 W. Main St., reopened its doors to visitors Thursday morning after it had been closed for two weeks due to damages caused by a burst water pipe.

Library director Elizabeth Steffen said the library building will resume its normal hours of operation. Curbside services have been available during the weeks repairs took place.

“We’ll probably have to block off a portion of the main library," Steffen said. "The meeting rooms will remain closed.”

Steffen discovered the burst water pipe, with water rushing out to the floor and flooding portions of the library, when she arrived for work the morning of Jan. 17.

She reported that no books were damaged, but the library’s large meeting room sustained water damage to carpeting, drywall and insulation. Water flowed into the main library room, damaging carpeting there, she said.
