Here's one more reason your kid needs a smartphone — a Pennsylvania mom found her kidnapped daughter in a parking lot over 150 miles away using the "Find My Phone" app.
In a terrifying turn of events, the 18-year-old's ex-boyfriend took her against her will on Tuesday. The mom soon received a text from her daughter asking for help, so she contacted the state police and started tracking her iPhone using the locater app.
When officials found the girl, she was bound and gagged with duct tape in a McDonald's parking lot over two hours away. Her ex was trying to leave the state with her, but thankfully the police arrested him and the girl is now safe.

To track your child's iPhone, take these simple steps:
Step 1: Sign into iCloud.
First, you will need their iCloud log-in (or set up their phone on your own account). You can sign into iCloud by going into Settings and then tapping on iCloud.
Step 2: Turn on "Find my iPhone."
Just tap and toggle the feature on.
Step 3: Go to the app.
The feature comes standard on all iPhones. If you can't find it, swipe down and search for it instead. When you open the app, you will need to sign in with you or your child's Apple ID (whichever the phone is linked to.)
Step 4: Track your child's location.
Once you're signed in, you can see the location of all the devices used with that Apple account, including tablets and laptops. This is also handy if your phone is ever lost or stolen.
