Granite City business destroyed by fire early Friday morning

The building was a total loss, the Granite City fire chief said.

GRANITE CITY, Ill — Fire completely destroyed a Granite City business early Friday morning.

The Granite City Fire Department got the call about heavy flames at about 4 a.m. Friday at The August Garden/Revival flower shop, located at 1300 Niedringhaus Ave.

At the scene, 5 On Your Side saw multiple departments responding amid snowy conditions. The building's roof had collapsed, and the windows had been blown out. Crews were tackling the flames with aerial hoses.

Granite City Fire Chief Rich Moore said there were no injuries because the business was empty at the time, but building was a total loss.

According to the business' Facebook page, Revival was a full-service florist that also sold home goods, gifts and vintage items.

As of Friday morning, firefighters were still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Moore said the next step will be to bulldoze the walls of the building. If the structural integrity is still in question, they will decide what to do from there.
