ST. LOUIS – The first responders who came to the rescue when Officer Ryan O'Connor was shot late last year were honored Wednesday.

Firefighter-paramedics John Fitzgerald, Tim Lurkins and Chuck Venegoni were all celebrated at the East Central Region Live Saving awards for their roles in saving the officer's life. Fitzgerald and Lurkins were there to recieve their recognition and pose for photos with O'Connor's wife Barbara, but Venegoni couldn't make it.

A post from the Rock Community Fire Protection District said the ceremony also recognized the Rock Township Ambulance District, Jeffco 911 and St. Anthony's Medical center personnel for their roles.
