ST. LOUIS — Tuesday, person after person came to a memorial bearing their soul to a man they'll never see again.
"I just feel incredibly sad that his life was lost this way and that there's two children that go on without him," said Mary Jo Dean.
All of this is in memory of fallen officer Michael Langsdorf.
The North County Police Cooperative officer was shot and killed in a Wellson market Sunday afternoon.
Monday night a memorial was erected in his honor.
"I brought a shot of Jameson, just for any fallen officer and a personal note from the restaurant and myself just saying thank you for everything you've done, all the lives you touched, all the people you saved." Devin Grahan, the owner of a restaurant Langsdorf frequented.
Everyone from the owners of his favorite bar to his former Mehlville High School classmates showed up to drown the old police car with signs of their sorrow.
"The guy was a true definition of a hero," Grahan said.
Juan Wilson is a former police officer in St. Charles County. He said the news of Langsdorf's death not only effects officers.
"My daughter, she's 18 and she started crying before she even got to me, I let go and she didn't let go," he said. "And she just said 'I watched the press conference' and she goes 'I'm glad you made it home.'"
It's something Langsdorf's children will no longer be able to say as mourners gather here to remember his life.
The memorial will be at the North County Cooperative facility at 8027 Page for the foreseeable future. Anyone who would like to pay their respects can do so.
