ST. LOUIS — The City of St. Louis is offering free firewood to residents throughout March while supplies last, officials announced Tuesday.

Any city resident can pick up the firewood from the following locations:

  • Forest Park at the Lower Muny Opera Parking Lot
  • Carondelet Park at the Compost and Recycling area off of Holly Hills Drive
  • O’Fallon Park at North of Picnic Site #4

The wood comes from trees removed from city parks and streets over the past year. The wood is reportedly dropped off on weekday afternoons and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Wood will also vary in size and tree species at each location. A daily supply of wood isn't guaranteed at any of the locations.

“Our Forestry and Parks staff members work very hard to maintain our parks and neighborhoods, and they respond quickly to emergency storm-related events,” said Greg Hayes, Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry. “We are glad City residents get the added benefit of an accessible and sustainable source of firewood as a result of these daily efforts.”

Wood cannot be picked up by commercial vehicles or trailers, as the machinery is prohibited by park restrictions. Residents can contact the St. Louis Forestry Division at (314) 613-7200 for additional information.
