Following a violent month in the St. Louis area for children, an organization is teaming up with the City of St. Louis and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to giveaway gun locks.
On June 21, Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice will offer free gun locks at St. Louis City Hall from 10 a.m.-2p.m.
Nearly 40 percent of homes with children in the U.S. have a gun and approximately one in three handguns is kept loaded and unlocked. June 21 is national “ASK” day, sponsored by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
“Studies show that a child dies of an accidental shooting every other day in the U.S. These deaths and thousands of injuries are entirely preventable when guns are stored safely,” said Lise Bernstein, president of Women’s Voices Raised for Social Justice.
Since May 20, at least seven children have been shot in the St. Louis area.
