Friends of a Ladue High School student gathered to mourn his death Monday, after he crashed his car over the weekend.
Around 2:30 Saturday morning, an officer discovered Nick Olson's car on the side of Spoede Road, just north of Conway, Frontenac Police said. Police are still investigating what lead up to the accident.
Monday, Olson's friends built a memorial of balloons, flowers and sports memorabilia.
Friends say Nick was a big sports fan. They even wore jerseys to school in his honor. Mostly, they remember Nick for his character, compassion and ability to make friends with anyone he met.
"We all really cared about him. And, coming here to acknowledge and let him know we're here with him all the way and he'll be here with us forever," said Jared Fields, who said he's known Olson since kindergarten.
Nick had also volunteered with St. Louis Challenger Baseball, a league for people with disabilities.
The Ladue School District said counselors will continue to be available for students and staff.
