COLUMBIA, Ill. — Family, friends and local businesses are all coming together to honor Illinois State Police trooper Nick Hopkins.
Trooper Hopkins was fatally shot on August 23 while serving a warrant in East St. Louis.
Hopkins was the first Illinois State Police SWAT team member killed in 20 years. He was a 10-year veteran of the department.
Friday night, family, friends and fellow officers will gather for a fundraiser in Columbia, Illinois where Hopkins' brother is a police officer.
Monroe County Backstoppers, local businesses and the community are all responsible for organizing the event where they will honor trooper Hopkins.
The fundraiser is at Falls Reception and Conference Center from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. The band, “Dr. Zhivegas” will be providing the music.
