Early morning crash in south city sends 3 children to the hospital

A fire department spokesperson said two of them were seriously injured.

ST. LOUIS — Police are investigating the cause of an early Thursday morning one-vehicle crash in south city.

St. Louis police and fire department crews responded just before 1:30 a.m. to a call of a wreck on Germania Avenue west of Interstate 55. When crews arrived on scene they located a red pickup truck with heavy damage.

The vehicle appeared to have struck a tree and a light pole, causing debris to spread across the road.

Our 5 On Your Side overnight photojournalist arrived on scene shortly after the crash. He observed at least one of the young victims being rescued from the truck.

St. Louis Fire Department Captain Garon Mosby said there were three children injured in the crash. Mosby described two of the injuries as being serious and one as non-life-threatening. He added that the children were not infants but are younger than 17 years old. They were all transported to local hospitals for treatment.

It is not known if the overnight rain may have been a factor in the crash. No other injures were reported and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Germania Avenue was closed at Fields Avenue overnight while emergency crews removed the heavily damaged vehicle and debris.
