Glendale police: armed home invasion suspect asked to use phone and then forced way inside

A couple was made to lie face down on the floor while the suspect left the scene, police said

ST. LOUIS — Police are searching for an armed suspect in a home invasion that occurred at around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Glendale Police Capt. Bob Catlett said that a man knocked on a door in the 700 block of Bismarck Avenue in Glendale and asked to use the phone. He then forced his way into the home and ordered a couple who lived there to give him any cash, jewelry and weapons they had.

The couple was made to lie face-down on the floor while he left the scene in an unknown direction, police said.

The victims weren't harmed.

Brian Smith lives in the area. He told 5 On Your Side that he was thankful his neighbors are OK.

“I’m very relieved. Just glad that it didn’t turn out to be something worse,” said Smith.

Police from Warson Woods, Rock Hill and Webster Groves assisted at the scene, as well as a police dog from the St. Ann Police Department.

Police told anyone in the area who has any information or who sees suspicious activity to call 911.
