ST. LOUIS — St. Louis-based health system Ascension has restored some of its electronic health records (EHR) that were impacted by a ransomware attack early this month.
Ascension said in an update Wednesday evening that it has restored EHR access in its first market following the May 8 attack and is "actively progressing a plan to restore access across our network on a rolling basis."
The 140-hospital health system didn't indicate which market's EHR records had been restored, but said that restoring access has been among the top priorities in its recovery process. Ascension is largely still relying on manual procedures and paper records while it works to restore its systems, a spokesperson told trade journal Becker's.
Among the nation’s largest nonprofit and Catholic health systems, Ascension had said late May 8 that it detected "unusual activity on select technology network systems" that day, later confirming it was due to a ransomware attack.
