HILLSBORO, Mo. — Hillsboro, Missouri, is under a boil advisory after a crash damaged a fire hydrant, a post on the city's Facebook page said.
According to the post, the crash damaged a fire hydrant weeks ago, but the city did not discover the damage until Thursday. The damage to the hydrant caused the water main break. Crews are reportedly working to isolate the damage and fix the issues.
The city's water and sewer department told 5 On Your Side that the earliest the boil order could be lifted is during the week of Jan. 1. City officials must wait to lift the boil order until the Missouri Health Department of Health and Senior Services tests water samples from the city and confirms they are safe to drink. The department is closed over the holiday season.
In the meantime, water can be used for bathing and hand washing, but the post said residents should boil water that is going to be used for drinking or cooking.
