JENNINGS, Mo. — A north St. Louis County home caught fire Sunday morning leaving two people injured.

The North County Fire Department responded to a call around 11:30 a.m. about a fire at 2443 Hord Avenue in Jennings. Firefighters were on the scene within two minutes of the call, said Keith Goldstein, chief of North County Fire & Rescue Protection District.

Residents of the home told firefighters that there was someone trapped in the attic, Goldstein said. As firefighters entered the attic, they began putting the fire out.

They discovered a 30-year-old man who sustained second-degree and third-degree burns on 80% of his body. He has been taken to a local hospital, firefighters said.

One firefighter was injured due to smoke inhalation. Paramedics on the scene have advised him to return to work, Goldstein said.

It is unclear how many people were in the house at the time of the fire.

Firefighters have not shared any more information at this time.

The St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit will be investigating the cause.
