IKEA St. Louis has an official opening date

St. Louisans won't have to wait much longer to get their Swedish furniture (and meatball) fix.

ID=26525883ST. LOUIS -- St. Louisans won't have to wait much longer to get their Swedish furniture (and meatball) fix. IKEA has announced the new St. Louis store will open at 9 a.m. on September 30th.

The 380,000 square-foot store is still under construction at I-64 and Vandeventer Avenue. It will feature 50 inspirational model rooms, nearly 10,000 items for sale, a supervised children's play area and a restaurant serving up Swedish specialties. The rooftop will feature Missouri's largest rooftop solar array.

The store will employ 300 employees in various positions including sales, interior design, customer service, receiving, food service and more. Interested candidates can apply online at IKEA-USA.com. So far, the company says it has hired about 100 workers and all of its nearly 60 managers for the St. Louis store.

IKEA recently announced it has set its minimum wage at $10 per hour, $2.35 higher than Missouri's current minimum wage of $7.65 per hour. Nationwide, the company plans to raise its minimum wage to an average of $11.87 next year.
