ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — An Illinois Department of Transportation worker was one of two people injured Tuesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer struck an IDOT truck on Interstate 55.
The crash happened just after 2:30 p.m. in a construction zone at milepost 3.5 in St. Clair County.
According to Illinois State Police, the IDOT truck was parked with its crash attenuator down in the left lane of the construction zone when a tractor-trailer struck it from behind.
The IDOT worker was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; the other person who was injured was transported with life-threatening injuries.
As of 6 p.m., all lanes were reopened.
