CHICAGO — An advocacy group in Chicago held a rally in honor of Sonya Massey on Saturday.
The Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression rallied, demanding justice for Massey. Massey was a 36-year-old Black woman who was fatally shot by a sheriff's deputy in her Illinois home on July 6.
CAARPR members and supporters gathered in the Federal Plaza City Market, calling for change.
Frank Chapman, chair of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, attended the rally.
"We want killer cops prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Frank said.
Massey died after she was shot by a Sangamon County deputy. Deputy Sean Grayson was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and official misconduct in the shooting and is in custody without bond.
Body camera video from the shooting was released on July 22.
