ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — One person was killed early Thursday morning when their vehicle crashed into the back of a stopped semitruck on Interstate 64 in St. Clair County.
According to Illinois State Police, the deadly crash happened just before 2 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-64 near milepost 2.
A semitruck had to stop in the roadway after experiencing mechanical issues, according to ISP. A car traveling eastbound failed to slow down and struck the rear end of the semi.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP.
The semitruck driver was uninjured.
An investigation was ongoing as of Thursday.
