JEFFERSON CITY – Dr. Daniel Isom is stepping down from his recently confirmed director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety position.
Governor Jay Nixon appointed Isom to the position shortly after the shooting death of Michael Brown.
Isom confirmed his decision with Senator Jamilah Nasheed Wednesday.
"I am extremely disappointed that Dr. Isom must not have been given the leeway to make reforms necessary after the unrest in Ferguson," Senator Nasheed said. "I sponsored Dr. Isom's nomination because I believe that he has the ability and experience to reform the justice system in the state of Missouri."
