2 firefighters injured during Fenton blaze, families return to homes

A large brush fire threatened dozens of homes in Fenton.

FENTON, Mo. — A brush fire in Jefferson County threatened dozens of homes in Fenton on Sunday, where crews were battling a large fire in an area between two subdivisions.

The fire was burning in an area off Saline Road between Walnut Ridge and Nottingham Lane. Homeowners in multiple nearby subdivisions were alerted about the fires. 

A major fire crew involving multiple units of first responders was at the scene getting food and water throughout the day and finally leaving the scene shortly after 10 p.m. as homes in the area remained dark.

People returned to their homes on Monday. Two firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze. They were treated at the hospital and released.

Saline Valley Fire spearheaded the effort.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's office said deputies were the ones to notify nearby residents and help anyone who needed assistance to evacuate. 

While at the scene of the fire, 5 On Your Side saw a few individuals carrying out belongings from their homes and driving away quickly from the area.
