CHESTER, Ill. (KSDK) – For the first time, a woman will take the helm as warden of Menard Correctional Center, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Kim Butler has been promoted to the position and will succeed Warden Rick Harrington who is retiring after a 20-year career. She previously served as Assistant Warden of Programs for the facility.
She has worked for the IDOC for the past 20 years in a number of different positions, such as correctional counselor, correctional officer, hostage negotiator and clinical services supervisor.
Butler will oversee the facility, which houses more than 3,700 inmates.
She is also the second woman to be appointed warden of an all-male, maximum security prison in Illinois.
