MARION COUNTY, Mo. — A teenager from Troy, Missouri, was killed in a crash near Hannibal. His father was behind the wheel, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened just before 4 p.m. Sunday near Hannibal, Missouri. Michael Thorp and his son Hunter were in a GMC pickup truck that was hauling a camper trailer. State police said Michael Thorp lost control on US-61. The truck drove off the left side of the road into the median and overturned.
Both Michael and Hunter were thrown out of the vehicle, MSHP reported. Michael Thorp suffered moderate injuries.
Hunter was pronounced dead at the scene. He was 17 years old.
Hunter was an incoming senior at Troy Buchanan High School. The school's principal provided the following statement:
'It is with profound sorrow I inform you that the Troy Buchanan High School family has suffered a great loss... This is a very difficult time for our school community. Please join us in expressing our deepest sympathies to Hunter's family.'
The school is providing counseling services at the Ninth Grade Center from 7 a.m.-3 p.m. until Wednesday, July 3. Families also can contact 636-366-4450.
