ST. LOUIS — Lindbergh High School is closed Thursday after an unexpected power outage hit the facility Thursday morning, district officials told 5 On Your Side.
The district's high school, the Early Childhood Education Center, and the Idea Center are all closed due to the outage. District officials said they did not have an estimated time power would be restored.
"We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and will update our families and staff as soon as additional information is available," the district said on the high school's website.
Officials did not provide a reason or cause for the outage.
The revamped high school and its football field were brand new to the 2024 school year, along with 33 new teachers.
"This is the first normal first-day that we've probably had in a really long time," Principal Eric Cochran told 5 On Your Side during the first day of the 2024 school year. "Last year, at this point, we still had construction in our parking lot, but everything is mostly finished, so we're really excited to roll out a brand-new school for these students because they really deserve it."
Students in 2022 started the year in the midst of a building and education renovation paid for through Proposition R, a no-tax-rate-increase bond issue approved by voters in April 2019. The renovations included secure main entrances, security glazing on entryway glass windows, and the relocation of maintenance and landscape shops off the high school's campus.
