ST. LOUIS – A 37-year-old man was indicted on Thursday in the murder of a Laclede Cab Company driver.
James Flannel, of St. Louis, was indicted for the carjacking and killing of Boris Iouioukine. Iouioukine was carjacked and murdered on June 25.
Flannel was charged with one count of carjacking, one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death and one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was originally charged for his illegal possession of ammunition on June 27. Flannel was taken into federal custody on July 14 and detained ever since.
If convicted, Flannel faces a maximum penalty of 10 years for the felon in possession of ammunition charge, his possession of a firearm resulting in death carries an addition consecutive mandatory possession of a penalty ranging from 10 years to life or the imposition of the death penalty.
“Seems like my dad was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Slava Iouioukine, Boris’ son.
Slava said he and his father were close. They had talked just before Boris was killed.
“I got called Tuesday, the day after he was shot and it was a shock. i couldn't believe it. I even tried to call him,” Slava said.
Slava said he is relieved the suspect is in custody, but it does little to ease his pain.
“Mainly sadness, an emptiness that we can no longer see him,” Slava said.
