1 critically wounded; Soulard bar fight leads to shooting

ST. LOUIS — A man was shot outside a Soulard bar after an altercation Friday night, a Saturday written statement from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said.

Identified by police only as a 50-year-old man, the victim was shot in the leg. Police officers with SLMPD's Third District were sent to the scene, in the 1000 block of Sidney Street after reports of a shooting there.

When officers arrived, they found the victim and applied a tourniquet. An ambulance took the man to a hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the 50-year-old man got into an altercation with a man inside of the bar," the SLMPD statement said. "Both men exited the bar where the altercation became physical. The other man pulled out a gun and shot the 50-year-old man."

More information may be forthcoming further as the investigation proceeds. This story will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available.

"Anyone with information is asked to call the Central Patrol Division at 314-444-2500 for a District 3 detective," the statement said. "Anyone who wants to remain anonymous and/or is interested in a possible reward can call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477)."

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged home from the emergency department after being shot.
