ST. LOUIS — A man wounded by gunfire in north St. Louis on Saturday died after he was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical treatment, a statement from police said.
The shooting happened in St. Louis' Baden neighborhood, the statement said. Officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the reports of the shooting around 6:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Ponce Avenue.
A social media post from the SLMPD published an hour after police responded said the man was critically injured. Another SLMPD post, less than 30 minutes after the previous one, said that Elliot Smith Jr., 27, had died.
Detectives with SLMPD's Homicide Division are investigating the shooting. No other details were available.
