ST CLAIR, Mo. — Police are investigating after a man was found dead behind a business in St. Clair, Missouri, Wednesday, the city's police department said.
Officers were called to check on a man lying facedown in the snow just before 7 a.m.
Steven A. Everhart, 54, was found dead in a clearing behind County Mart at 925 Plaza Drive. There were no signs of foul play, police said.
Detectives learned an employee at nearby Dollar General had seen Everhart the previous night and had offered him help. The employee brought Everhart in from the cold weather around 9 p.m., gave him food and let him stay until the store closed at 10 p.m.
The employee told police he asked if Everhart had a place to go, and Everhart said he did. Everhart did not say where he was going.
An autopsy was scheduled to determine the manner of Everhart's death.
Temperatures were below freezing all day Tuesday.
