ST ANN, Mo. — St. Ann police are investigating a deadly shooting near the St. Louis International airport.
Officers said that around 7 p.m. Saturday morning a man drove into the Pear Tree apartment complex to meet a woman. When he arrived, police said another man fired several shots into his car.
"I basically heard four pops. I didn't pay much attention to it because I was watching TV at the time," witness Lewis Weaver said.
Police said after the gunfire the victim immediately sped off, but he only made it a few hundred feet before his car stopped in front the Marriott St Louis Airport hotel. He then tried to get out of his car, but he fell to the ground as his vehicle rolled down the embankment. He died at the scene.
"It's shocking. Like I said, it's a rarity. It's something that doesn't happen out here," Weaver said.
Police have not released the identity of the victim nor a description of the suspect.
