MAPLEWOOD, Mo. — Multiple people who live in an apartment complex in Maplewood have been displaced due to a fire Tuesday morning.
At around 2:30 a.m., someone passing by the apartment complex in the 3700 block of Cambridge noticed smoke and flames coming from the basement.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found a car in the basement engulfed in flames and the fire extended to the upper levels of the apartment.
All the residents were evacuated and there were no injuries.
The damage is primarily in the basement but due to damage to the electrical system and smoke damage, 20 units are uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Red Cross is assisting 10 people and they are working with the apartment property management to see if additional people need assistance.
