Massive crowd skips the meal, goes for the deals Thanksgiving night

The local manager tells 5 On Your Side that gaming systems and electronics are what really get people in the door.

BRIDGETON, Mo. —

Thanksgiving is a holiday full of traditions. For many of us, the day consists of a big meal or maybe watching the big game.

For a select few, Thanksgiving shopping is the only game in town.

"I got here about 3:05," Leonard White, an avid Thanksgiving Day Shopper said.

You may not have to wear pads, but as far as Leonard is concerned, he does wear a jersey.

"It's a challenge," he said.

Leonard's family fields a full team, when it comes to Thanksgiving Day Shopping.

"We've got others at Target and Walmart, we scattered. We came in a drove. There's about 30 of us," White said.

Daniel Marcuti and his mother were the first to huddle up, out in front of the Kohl's on St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton.

"For the deals. You can't beat Black Friday at Kohls," Daniel said.

We reminded him it's not even Friday yet. "I know but it's already starting," he replied.

When the clock struck 5, the doors were flung open and both teams ran onto the metaphoric field with a solid game plan.

"We already know the store so we know where we're going," says Marcuti.

Daniel and his mom decided to blitz the clothing section.

Like most stores, you can see sales stickers all over the store for all sorts of items, but the local manager tells 5 On Your Side that electronic sales are what really get people through the door.

"I need an Echo 5 and a few other things if they're in there," White told us.

Early in, Leonard called an audible. He went for the PlayStation 4.

"My team may have lost but I came through as a winner," he said.

It was a winning play, because minutes later, the Bridgeston Kohl's sold out of PS4s.

He was also able to snag that Echo 5.

Final score at the register: "I saved $100 on the game system, $50 dollars in the Echo 5, plus I got $75 dollars in Kohl's Cash," White reported.

As for Daniel and his mom, they stuck with their original plan, tackling much needed winter clothes.

"We saved $130.29," Marcuti said.

Like football, it's not a sport enjoyed by all, but for those who play, they leave it all on the field.
