ST. LOUIS — The MetroLink route between the Central West End and Civic Center resumed Monday morning after a woman was struck by a train.
At about 10 a.m. Monday, the route between the Central West End and Civic Center was shut down after a "report of a train possibly making contact with a pedestrian."
A spokeswoman with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the accident happened at 9:45 a.m. in the 3500 block of Scott.
Preliminary information found that a westbound MetroLink train was stopped at the Grand station. As the train began to depart, warning sirens alarmed passengers that a freight train was passing on a nearby track.
A 50-year-old woman crossed the crosswalk as the MetroLink train departed. The train conductor tried to warn the woman, but she was struck by the front of the vessel.
Paramedics transported her to an area hospital for treatment of a minor leg injury.
A spokesperson with MetroLink said the transportation service resumed operation at about 10:30 a.m. Monday between the Central West End and Civic Center stations.
Shuttles were initially used to transport passengers by bus between the Central West End, Grand, Union Station and Civic Center stations. Passengers who traveled through that area experienced an hour-long delay in service.
An investigation is ongoing.
